Choosing between having your natural childbirth at a birth center or at home is a big decision. The idea of a home birth may stress you out more than anything, or you may be excited at the thought of being able to birth from the comfort of your home. Either way, home birth is an option that involves the evidence-based knowledge of your licensed midwife with the natural comfort that comes from being in your own home.
Space & Necessities
Every midwife will have a different list of minor items you will need for your home birth. Contact the licensed midwives at the SCV Birth Center if you are interested in home birth and we will be able to walk through the process and necessities of having a home birth. We will make sure you are fully prepared with both the required and suggested items, setting you up for a low-stress birth.
Creating a peaceful space for your home birth is key. Lean into your nesting instincts and start to prepare the room you’ve selected. Slowly start to declutter the room and create a space that is calming. You can choose between renting a portable birthing tub, or using your own birth tub. We can help you make portable tub arrangements but if you decide to use your own birth tub, make sure your bathroom and tub are thoroughly cleaned and set up.
Including Children
If you have younger children, you need to decide if you would like to include your children in your natural childbirth. We highly recommend involving your children in the birth and letting them experience the process. Bring them with you to your consultation and licensed midwife appointments. We love getting to know the whole family.
